Avery Brewing Co. Boulder CO, Old Jubilation Ale, 8.3% abv. is dark Mahogany in color with a quickly receding light tan head. Rich aromas of toasted hazelnuts, sweet roasted malt, caramel and baking spices. The palate takes over where the nose ends, it takes the aromas and blends them into a mouth pleasing fullness of flavors. Sip and savor the Old Jubilation Ale. And even though though alcohol level is big, it is perfect for a warming ale on a cold winter’s night so you might need to have more than one.
The aroma reminds me of the sweet maltiness that wafts through the tasting room of a brewery. When that welcoming smell hits your nose you know you are in for something special. Avery suggests enjoying it with smoked meat, which would be fine, but I would enjoy it with a mud pie drizzled with caramel and topped with roasted hazelnuts.
Interesting enough I found a can of the Old Jubilation ale as part of a batch I got to review for winter beers. This is one of the best brews of the winter season that I had and I look forward to drinking having it again next year.
