, Hopland, Mendocino, CA, 2017 is deep garnet red in the glass with a violet corona along the edges. Aromas of dark berries first hit the nose with a lacing of wet slate. These aromas bleed into the tell tale side of fine bourbon barrels; hints of smoke, vanilla, burnt sugar then back to the berries. The rich palate says Cabernet Sauvignon with a treat. Blue berries, black berries and tart cherries roll over the tongue and are enhanced with the sweet bourbon character. The burnt sugar and vanilla are like the charred crunchy top of crème Brulee with flavors of smoky toasted oak. The 1000 Stories, Bourbon Barrel, Cabernet Sauvignon has a full mouth feel from start to finish. The tannins are soft, maybe do to the aging in American and French oak, but finished with the bourbon barrels. The finish has some nice acidity to round out the palate and get your palate ready for the next sip.
